Lapalala Curator House
Project type
Sustainability Design
Date
October 2024
Location
Limpopo, South Africa
The design of the Lapalala Wilderness School Biodiversity Centre integrates sustainability, local heritage, and educational goals through the use of eco-friendly materials like Kiaat timber, concrete screed, limewash, and calico cotton fabric. The centre will focus on promoting sustainable practices, particularly through the Mopani worm harvesting process, offering hands-on learning opportunities in the Mopani Kitchen Laboratory. Flexible spaces such as interactive exhibitions, multifunctional presentation areas, and reflective pods support a variety of educational activities, while outdoor spaces provide a connection to nature. This design not only respects the natural environment but also empowers the local community, promoting sustainable food practices and creating an engaging learning experience for all visitors.
